The point of a ftp program?

Okay, I probably sound really weird asking this. But what is the point of using a FTP program to upload all your files? Why not just do it manually through the FTP domain?

Some people, like people with subdomains, no cpanel, etc. have no file manager with their site so they need to use ftp.

I use to use my CPanel when I was hosted for free but now that I have a domain I really don't have the same CPanel... so I tried the trial for CuteFTP and I fell in love with it and bought it... it's awesome and it's way more efficient and convenient.
