ABOUT...
Photography is becoming very mainstream this year, and lots of people are trying their hand at taking good looking photos. I'm trying to encourage young unseen artists to improve their works on other websites such as deviantArt by displaying their work for others to critique them. I'm going to try something different on this website. Alot of stuff gets posted on graphics and art sites, and alot of the stuff looks like there isn't much thought put into them. I want you to really try hard to come up with something artistic, original and technically sound. Don't worry, I will give you some tips to get you started.
Prizes
Winner; will recieve 600 Points, a photography award banner, and complete in depth critiques to any photographs they send me through PM; forever.
Runner Up; will recieve 100 Points, and an in depth critique to ONE image they choose to send.
ENTRIES
Electroma - Link To Entry (http://depairfactor.deviantart.com/art/marlboro-70036078)
Critique; The vignette effect and high contrast makes this piece very interesting and although the dull down colours work very well... there is a splash of distracting colour on the woodwork, this could easily be removed using the cloning tool to effectively make the subject the only colourful part of the image.
Saabio - Link To Entry (http://saabio.deviantart.com/art/Spypond-winter-73309365)
Critique; These types of landscapes are very vastly overdone, so to make an artistic one a photographer must come up with an interesting way of executing it. This landscape needs a focal point, something to pull the viewer in. At the moment the image seems too flat, try different angles and viewpoints to make the lanscape a bit more artistic.
Oleta - Link To Entry (http://roxyoleta.deviantart.com/art/llama-75641063)
Critique; This image is very over-exposed and shaky. To tackle over-exposure, you need to eliminate some of the light coming into the lens, if you cannot control such settings as aperture, ISO or shutter speed, then you need to work around the light you are given... the direction in which you take a photo can make the world of difference, taking photos at a different time of day can also help tremendously. Tackling shakiness is hard when you don't have the right camera, a tripod or a faster shutter speed always makes the task an easier one, but without those you just have to practice holding your camera in different ways to see which one is most comfortable and steady for you.
Zephyr-song - Link To Entry (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z132/_Pii_/Checkmate001fixedjpg.png)
Critique; This is a very bold, striking and well composed image. There's not much to say about this, other than the noise on the image may be a bit too distracting, it works well to a certain degree but on parts of the face and hair it looks almost compressed. Try a lower ISO setting and adjust your shutter and aperture instead, for shots that start to get too noisy.
KristixIndie - Link To Entry (http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/DashDashUnderscore/HPIM1564.jpg)
Critique; The Depth of field in this image is very nice, and it's a good technical shot. However it is a bit confusing as to whether there is a concept or motive behind the image or not, as it does not reveal one particular focal point.
Hannah - Link To Entry (http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee194/bloodyjennykidd/IMG_1064.jpg)
Critique; There's a nice focus to this image, but as soon as it's viewed the over-exposure is highly notice-able, as well as some harsh shadows. Try practicing with light, if you are doing a still life such as this and you want to soften the light, you can use a piece of white card against the light source.. or if using flash try some tracing paper.
Annmarie - Link To Entry (http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6027/s7001788iw3.jpg)
Critique; This is a very well focused image, nice and sharp. But it could really benefit from some tighter cropping, just to eliminate the top of the image and bottom right which can be distracting.
