Changing pattern colour

ON photoshop, how to youu make the pattern like a diff colour like the example below how there are hearts mine the pattern is BLACK and I can't change it to white or any other colour. This is how I do it:

I type my text the I go Layer> Layer Style> Pattern Overlay...
and it ain't work so anybody have any idea tell me pls or tutorial thx .neeneer.

Set the layer with the pattern to overlay or soft light?

I treid it
it made a light grey like i wanna change it either full white or some other colour.. thx thoguh <3

create a new transparent layer with the selection you want the pattern to be, and make the layer style as grain merge..if the background color of the pattern is transparent, this should work..if it is white, you will need to cut the white background off of the pattern

CTRL + H while your pattern layer is highlighted. Change the color to the desired hue. Remember the 3 digit number that you've changed it to and then change the other layers colors (if you wish to).
