Ok, so I use CoreFTP and I'm having problems with it now. I asked Linda, (shhjustkissme), cause she gave me my subdomain and she has CoreFTP aswell, but she doesn't know what the problem is.

I downloaded it about 2 or 3 weeks ago and it was working fine, but lately it hasn't been working for me. I save my changes and what I do in notepad, and then I overwrite the files but nothing changes. When I go back to whatever I tired to change, the changes don't show up. It's still what I had in the first place.

Does anyone know what's going on and have a solution?

I had that same problem when I first started using an FTP program as a beginner but it was Smart FTP. I think it's because you may not be transferring the file right or saving the changes correctly or something. Try and be careful when transferring files to make sure you're doing it right.

I would recommend you to use Smart FTP since it's a very good program and I have been using it for a long time and I haven't had many problems with it.

GOOD SMART FTP TUTORIAL FOR TRANSFERRING FILES:
http://pixelatedstars.net/tutorials/SmartFTP/upload.php

Download Smart FTP and then follow the tutorial step by step and see if the problem gets solved.

Hope this helps! :)

You should use FileZilla (http://filezilla-project.org/), it's free and I've never had any problems with it.

ok , open up your smart FTP , then on the upper bar , key in your informations and click on the green arrow sign beside your ftp address .

to add an file , drag and drop it . ( if you save your notepad on other folders , you can browse them ) <- click on File -> New Remote Browser and you'll see your desktop files etc come out on your right .

EDIT: I really just wanna figure out why CoreFTP isn't working for me anymore? I was use to using that and I actually knew how.

o,o take screenshot ? :/

screenshot of :
1. your smartftp right after you've log in into your ftp . ( of course , erase your info on the top )
2. try dragging something and move it into your ftp files . ( take the screenshot RIGHT ON when you're dragging )

p/s : remember to remove your info (top bar) using paint / other image programs !

Well first of all, I don't even know where I'm supposed to drag anything and idk which ones are my FTP files.

I really wanna be able to use CoreFTP again.

I use CoreFTP and it has done that to me before too. Usually what happens is I log out and it will work the next time I log in. When CoreFTP asks you whether or not you want to overwrite a file or not, do you check where it says "Do this always?" Or something like that? Try doing that next time.

I've logged out and logged back in a lot. I've restarted my laptop, and I've also unistalled CoreFTP and then downloaded it again. It still happens.

Well then maybe it is your computer and not the program. I would suggest you send a help letter to the company. You can write them on their forum here:

http://www.coreftp.com/forums/

Seeing as how they know the program inside and out I am sure they can provide you with a more thorough answer than anyone on Kville.

Lauren

I'll try that since idk what else to do. =/
Do you think they'll reply?

Diamonds

I'm not sure because I have never written to them before. It says 25 users are online now so you should give it a try.

Lauren

Alright well I just signed up and made a thread. I hope they reply and I hope I can get this fixed.

I guess I should learn how to use Smart FTP or Filezilla incase I can't get this situation fixed. =/

I've downloaded both but don't know how to use either.

I am trying to think of the program I used to use before CoreFTP so that I can give you the name. It was easy and I liked it but something happened and I had to uninstall it. I think it was SmartFTP but I remember that not being so easy...or was it? Hmmm.

hm .. well actually SmartFTP is very easy to use .. hang on .. i'll make a tut on it .. maybe that will help .. anyway , do you have IM ? add me if you have one .. msn messenger would be preferred :P

The only messenger I have is AIM.

Thanx for making that tutorial Rin, I'll check it out.

And Mechelle, no one from the CoreFTP forum has replied to my thread I made yet. >_<

Oh btw, I noticed that when I downloaded Smart FTP, it's a trial version. I only have like 28 days left. After that can I not use it anymore?

EDIT: I'm able to drag and drop now! lol

No I just need to know how to make a new file and add it?

No .. you can use it forever . After it expires , redownload the client again and install . You can use it again for about 13 days . Always do that and there you go :P

EDIT: I'm able to drag and drop now! lol
congrats :/

No I just need to know how to make a new file and add it?

You make new files by using Notepad . Write all you want on your notepad and save it as your file type . for example , myself.php like that on ANYWHERE in your computer .

For example , you save myself.php in My Document , so what you do is , go to Smart FTP -> New Local Browser and browse for My Document , drag the myself.php into your directory .

To create a new folder in your directory , simply right click -> new folder .

^ Oh ok, I see now.

I've found another problem. I went to eidt my index.php and I saved the changes and replaced the files and it worked. When I edit my footer.php, header.php, and style.css it messes everything up.

^ Nevermind, I don't think think that part is messed up.

I do have a new question though. See how on my site (http://www.prepalicious.kissable-penguin.com/) everything is in a big scrollbox? (screenshot (http://i38.tinypic.com/2wh0agx.jpg)) How do I get rid of that? It'd be in style.css right?

I took a screenshot and everything is in a big scrollbox

http://i38.tinypic.com/2wh0agx.jpg

I didn't edit anything in my index.php, just my style.css.

First I took out...

#container {
width : 602px;
height : auto;
margin : 0 auto;
padding-top : 0;
overflow : auto;
padding-top : 0;
border: 1px solid #fff;
border-bottom: 5px solid #ffd1e5;
border-top: 1px solid #fff;
}

...and it put my headers to the right and made them pink like they use to be, so I added it back and then took out this..

#container2 {
width : 602px;
height : auto;
margin : 0 auto;
padding-top : 0;
overflow : auto;
padding : 0px;
padding-top : 0;
background-color : #FFF;
}

...and it didn't change anything so I put it back in and saved it all and replaced the files and it just left everything to the right and the headers were still pink.

ahh .. **headache** ..

okay ..

1. give me your current CSS stylesheet here ..
2. tell me what do you actually want on your site ? i mean the header colour etc etc ..

and oh yeah , did you backup your files ? if you did , try and drag the original css stylesheet back ?

[edit] .. sorry .. i've viewed your page's source codes without informing because I want to see how you coded your index.php ..

so I've see the codings and ...

1. change your <LINK href="PREPALiCi0US_files/style.css" type=text/css rel=stylesheet> to <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.prepalicious.kissable-penguin.com/style.css">

2. why do you need to place :
<DIV id=container>
<DIV id=header></DIV>
<DIV id=container2>
<DIV id=content>
so much div ... and without closing them ... ?

In your css , which DIV ( container , header , container2 or content ) that you want it to show your contents ?

I want the headers like welcome, aboutt he owner, etc. to be #92b279 and the text links to be #a63841.

I'll try putting <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.prepalicious.kissable-penguin.com/style.css"> in my index.php now.

completely nothing wrong with your index.php o.o ...

and .. i guess ... ._. you should change your h1 in your css .. to be like this :

h1 {
font-family:Arial;
font-size: 9pt;
text-align:center;
color: #FFFFFF;
background-color: #92b279; <- i'm not sure whether your #92b279 is meant about the background / the font color . if it's the font color , fill #92b279 in the upper row .
}

and mistake .. <LINK href="PREPALiCi0US_files/style.css" type=text/css rel=stylesheet> is at your header.php .. change it to the one i mentioned before ..
