I recently discovered that one of my hostees is displaying WidgetBucks ads on her site. Her site that I'm hosting for free, as in she not paying me to host her. To me, it doesn't seem right for me to host her out of the goodness of my heart, and then for her to make money off a site she isn't paying for.
Should I let the ads stay or should I make her take them down?

I also have a hostee who hasn't updated her site since Sept. 2007. I have made a couple of attempts to contact her, but she has never replied to any of my attempts to contact her. The site receives maybe 4 hits a day.
Should I take down the site or should I let it stay?

Hmm for the ads, I think you should contact her about it and tell her how you feel. Ask her politely if she could take them down.

As for the hostee, email her once again and give her a week more to reply. If not delete her. It has been almost a year!

I think it's pretty safe to delete the hostee who hasnt updated in 10 months. Chances are she just left the internet world.

I'd contact the other hostee and question her about it.
Maybe she can pay you for hosting her site? If she's making money off being hosted by you, you should get a precentage.

For the hostee that has the ads, tell her to either pay you some for hosting her or tell her to take down the ads. However, what if she actually don't earn anything from it? Just wondering, because I have ads on my site and goodness me, I haven't earn a single thing from it.

& for the one that is mostly like gone, I think you can delete her site since she hasn't kept in contact with you for almost a year. Either msg her about it one last time or just take down the site.

For the hostee with the ads, i'd let her keep them - after all, it's her site and she's put all her hard work in it and probably wants to make some money from it. I know the money i'll get from my sites i'll need desperately for bills; rent, council tax, electric etc.

For the hostee that hasn't been on, my rule would be if there's been no contact after a year, delete her.

The ads I personally wouldn't mind, but you're the host and what you say goes. Before you host someone though, you need to tell them you don't appreciate ads. I personally wouldn't care because it is their site they've worked hard on and maybe they need the money.

As for the hostee, it's only wasting your space & if you've made attempts to contact her and no response, delete her. After all, it has been almost a year.

Second hostee: delete. If you want to be super nice, make a .zip file of their site and email it to them before deleting them. :)

First hostee: find out why she has the ads on her site. She might be saving up to get her own hosting or something. If she gives a reason you don't like, tell her to remove them or find another host. :p

Contact her. Don't delete her site without talking to her as this will result to "internet quarrel". You may either ask her to remove those ads or pay for the free hosting. Tell her its unfair since you host her for free and she makes money out of her free hosting.

Take down the site. Its almost 10 months. And sure, you contact her but to no response. Its safe to delete her site.

Should I let the ads stay or should I make her take them down?

I don't think there's anything wrong with allowing her to have the ads. As long as it isn't affecting you, I don't see a problem with it. Do you have ads on your own site too? Cos I know sometimes some hosts ask their hostees to put up some of their own ads, so you can always ask her to put up some of your own ads in addition of her own on some pages?

Should I take down the site or should I let it stay?

Hm I don't see anything wrong with deleting it, although maybe wait until September? But I agree with Lirae that make a .zip file of the site and email it to her. You never know her reasons for not being able to come online and it might suck if she's found all her files deleted.

I would delete the site that hasn't been updated in months.
The girl with ads I would let her keep them because she might need the money.

Should I let the ads stay or should I make her take them down?
- I guess it will much better if she did ask your permission before putting it up, it's like a hostee etiquette. So now, i guess you should contact her to clarify everything. :)

Should I take down the site or should I let it stay?
- For me, you should delete the account by now or if you want, contact her. If hadn't got a word for her after, delete it. I guess more people are more deserving to have that space. :)

I made a thread simular to this not too long ago, I wanted to put ads on my site but I felt rude about it cause I was being hosted for free. I guess you could ask her that if she's going to put ads up, that you would like a one time payment (like $15 or something), or graphics, or a certain percentage of her earnings. Or you could just make her remove them, whatever floats your boat :D

As for your other hostee... almost a year O_O? I would give her a alst e-mail stating that she has a week to reply back or else everything is getting deleted.

Wow... I can't believe I've gotten so many replies to this thread...
anyway...
To answer poonam's question, I don't have ads on my site, I probably won't make any money off them, if I had them.
She pmed me and explained why she had the ads up, and its for a good reason, so I have decided to let her keep them for now.

As for the other hostee, she has a week to reply to the new email I sent her, and if doesn't reply I'm taking the site down.

Thanks again everyone for their input. :)

Honestly I wouldn't be upset about the ads. I know Elora has ads on her site and I really couldn't care less. I figure that it's their space to do whatever. As for the not active. I'd tell her 1 week or deleted.
