how do ads on websites work such as google ads?

People click on them, and you get payed per click. The payment per click varies, and then once you reach $100 they send you payment.

That essentially covers it.
You put their ads on your site, people click the ads, you get a percentage of money per click. Sometimes it varies. I could get 1 click one day and it only equals to be .15 cents and the next day the single click would be like .32 --- It all varies on the percentage of hits with the clicks.

Once you hit $100 you will receive a payment. Their payment system is really confusing to me otherwise I'd explain that in depth. Basically it takes a few weeks but after you hit $100 made you'll receive a check.

Wish I could explain more, there really isn't more to it that I can think of. You cannot tell people to click your ads, just hope someday they will. So you do *lots of crossing finger action*. You can also have like five different types of ads. Regular ones you see that have links, search, referrals, video units, and mobile ads (for when someone views your site on their phone.) Thats all about what I could explain. Everything else I don't pay attention to. Honestly, all I care about is how much money I made today, this week, this month, this year, etc. Hope that explains a little more for you.

Apart from taxes, no.

Google is about as safe on the internet as you can get.

Well, I mean you have to pay taxes on any money you earn. I don't know what you do exactly, because I haven't gotten to that stage yet (I only have about $16 on my adsense) but it's just your tax info you fill in.

I haven't gotten that far either yet due to just receiving my money early this year (which was after tax time) What it is; they tax the money your receiving (no different than when you earn a paycheck and they take out money from your earnings for taxes) then at the end of the year they send you forms that you have to claim on your taxes, since you're under 18 you dont file taxes unless you have a job, you'd have to have your mom explain that more though to you.
